We have just despatched 6 sets of load pins with handheld displays, all neatly packed in a transit case. These kits will be used in a specially designed assembly for supporting the engine of A400M military transport aircraft while a gearbox change is carried out. Two load pins are attached to vertical turnbuckles and register the engine weight, which can then be balanced between the two pins to ensure even weight distribution on the support assembly. The other two load pins are attached to lateral turnbuckles, which, whilst registering some of the engine weight, are also used via the turnbuckles to apply a pre-load to support the engine when the gearbox is removed.
A submersible 250te load pin left our factory this week which will be used for mooring line tension monitoring on an FPSO. The load pin is fitted with a specially design cage to protect the load pin connector and is supplied with an anti-rotation bracket.

To help get everyone into the Christmas Spirit, Newport load measurement equipment manufacturer, LCM Systems Ltd, decided to hold a Christmas Raffle for its employees. To make it a bit more of a special event, it was decided that those participating would make donations to local charity ‘Isle of Wight Food Bank’. This vital local service provides emergency food to those most in need, who through redundancy, illness or an unexpected large bill find themselves without the necessary funds to provide food for themselves and their families. Items in the raffle were kindly donated by LCM Systems suppliers, as well from by the company. Managing Director, Steve Sargeant also promised to match the total amount raised.
The company’s 18 employees donated an impressive £124.50, which meant that with the matched donation, a cheque for £249 has been sent to Isle of Wight Food Bank. Steve Sargeant commented “It is important that we take time to consider those less fortunate than ourselves over the Christmas holidays. As a company, we wanted to do something to help contribute in some way, and felt a raffle would be a fun way of doing so. I am really proud of the amount our generous employees raised for this worthy cause, and it was a great pleasure to be able to send a cheque for nearly two hundred and fifty pounds to our chosen charity”.

Every year LCM Systems (represented by MD Steve Sargeant, playing off his 11 handicap) and Straightpoint (represented by MD Dave Ayling, and playing off a 22 handicap) compete for the Load Link Cup. This year, to make it a bit more of a challenge, Gary Mullins from Action Coach, playing off 28 handicap, was also invited to compete. Following a strong warm coffee, they braved the blustery conditions and set off on the Freshwater Bay 18 hole golf course.
LCM Systems were once again announced the winners, with a stableford score of 42 points, to Action Coach’s 30 points and Straightpoint’s 20 points. Dave presented the cup to Steve with good grace (there might have been a slight grimace), and is eagerly awaiting next years challenge and the chance to finally take the cup back to Straightpoint.
Although the victory appears to be a “walk over”, commenting after, Steve said that the home advantage in the windy conditions aided him greatly, but was happy that the trophy was “back home”
