For one of our UK customers we have designed and manufactured 7 off anchor load cells, each rated to 30te. These annular compression load cells will be used as part of a lock gate hoist system to monitor the even lifting and opening of the gates, and to provide protection to the lifting system in the event of a snagging incident by alerting operators via an integrated alarm system. With an accuracy of 0.1%, these stainless steel load cells have environmental sealing to IP67 for suitability for use in a marine environment.
Proving to be extremely popular in recent months are our CPA compression load cells, with yet another batch heading off to Sarawak, Malaysia. This order was for 5 x 100te, 10 x 200te and 12 x 500te capacity load cells (100te and 200te versions shown below), for a heavy lift application. Supplied complete with load cap, carry handles and integral connector, these high accuracy load cells will be used to weigh and determine the centre of gravity of an oil rig. Also supplied with each load cell was an SGA-D load cell amplifier, providing 4-20mA output.
Leaving the factory tomorrow are 5 of our TELSHACK-B 150te telemetry load shackles. Supplied with a T24-BSU base station for wireless communication with our 8” tablet PC that has been pre-installed with LOG-100 software, the operator is able to view, browse and log data. Also included is a visual and audible alarm which has been set to trigger when the load falls below 15 tonnes and when it goes above 100 tonnes. These alarms will be used to identify a slack rope and to ensure overload situations do not occur. A T24-HA handheld load indicator has also been supplied so the weight data can be viewed in two different locations. Our customer required these on a short lead-time of 5 weeks for a pre-planned lift, which was successfully achieved.
One of our regular OEM customers has ordered 21 x 500 tonne CPA compression load cells, which are now complete and ready for collection. These stainless steel load cells will form part of their extensive Centre of Gravity (COG) system fleet, for use during heavy lifting operations. Used in conjunction with our custom-designed COG software, the system provides individual loads and the dynamic centre of gravity, to minimise the risk of incidents during a lift. Each load cell is supplied complete with loading cap (for optimal load centralisation), is sealed to IP67 and has achieved an accuracy of 0.1% of rated load.
In the final stages of manufacturing this week are ten 200te submersible shackle load pins that will be used to provide mooring line tension monitoring. These substantial 150mm diameter by 550mm load pins are supplied with a special cage that protects the connector and an anti-rotation bracket. Also supplied is a certificate of conformity, 3.1 material certification, with proof load and calibration witnessed by ABS at our factory.
Ready for despatch early next week are 24 custom design load pins rated to 150,000 lbf for a company in Mexico. The load pins are required for 30 newly designed sand silos for oil wells, for which our customer has secured a contract to build within the next 6 months for a USA oil contractor. Four load pins are required per sand silo, so this initial batch will be installed in the first 6 sand silos to be manufactured. The remaining 5 batches of 24 load pins will be despatched on a monthly basis. LCM Systems are also supplying a large digit display per sand silo that shows total load.
This order was unusual for LCM Systems in that the time from the receipt of the initial enquiry to the despatch of the first set of pins was just 6 weeks. The customer needed the load pins in a very short lead time to be able to meet their contract deadline, and LCM Systems was able to accommodate their requirement with receipt of order to finished load pins achieved in just 18 working days.
Despatched on Tuesday to one of our regular OEM customers was a custom design 400te load cell. Manufactured from stainless steel, this annular load cell has an accuracy of better than 0.4% of rated load, is sealed to IP67, and comes complete with welded carry handles to aid installation and general handling. With an impressive 285mm overall diameter and a centre hole diameter of 115mm, it will be used in an application where an anchor bolt passes through the centre of the load cell, allowing the anchor bolt tension to be monitored for safety purposes.
On their way to a customer in the Czech Republic are 4 x 500N gear shifter load cells. These specialist load cells provide measurements in both X and Y directions, having been instrumented with two strain gauge bridges mounted at 90º to each other. They are supplied with an external amplifier housed in a die-cast aluminium enclosure to give +/-10 VDC output. Designed for use in automotive clutch/gear testing apparatus, these load cells are fitted in-line with a gear shifter and produce an output depending on the direction of the force. The measurements recorded over time can be used for fatigue analysis and/or evaluation purposes prior to a product being released for general production.
Leaving our factory this week are 10 off S-type load cells, that will be used in Portable Saddle Clamp Testers. These will be delivered to a customer that designs and manufactures specialist equipment and tooling for pipelines. Saddle clamps are used extensively in the gas and water industries to ensure the optimum force between the electrofusion fitting and the pipe. Over time the spring within the saddle clamp can weaken, so regular calibrations are required to check that the applied force remains within the required range. The Portable Saddle Clamp Testers enable this to be carried out easily and quickly in the field. Our STA-1 load cells are ideal for this application, as they offer 0.02% accuracy and are environmentally sealed to IP67. As per our customers requirements, the load cells have all been calibrated in both kN and newtons.
