We were asked by the editor of Instrumentation journal to contribute an article to their Calibration feature in the June issue of the journal.
Click on the link and go to page 13, where you can read “Weighing up the benefits of load cell calibration“.
You can also download it by clicking Calibration Article 0614
Thanks to our new internal marketing resources, we are pleased to announce that we have updated our website to make it more intuitive to use and will enable everyone requiring load cells, load pins, shackles and indicators to find a solution to their requirements quickly and easily.
Please visit www.lcmsystems.com and let us know what you think!
Also, watch this space for further exciting developments about our website.
Here at LCM Systems we provide load measurement solutions to many different industries, and one that we have seen particularly high growth in over the past few years is the entertainment industry, where our products are used to help ensure the safety of behind the scenes personnel, performers and attendees.
You can find out more about how we have helped by visiting our website at http://www.lcmsystems.com/article33.html

Yes, we have manufactured and delivered an impressive 2000te tension and compression load cell for a materials testing institute in China. You can find more about it on the News Section of our website. Click News on LCM Systems’ website.
As part of our commitment to making our newly designed LCM Systems’ website a valuable resource for all engineers who work with and specify load cells, we have added a Resources page that includes a number of Technical Notes to help people understand load pins, their applications and how to chose the correct one for their particular application.
This is in no way a substitute for talking directly with our design team either directly on +44 (0) 1983 249264 or via email firstname.lastname@example.org, but is a great starting point for becoming familiar with load pins and their many uses.
Have a direct look at the Getting The Best from Your Load Pin.
The Technical Note starts by looking at the advantages of load pins as a direct replacement for clevis or pivot pins and their typical applications.
After this brief introduction, a General Description highlights how load pins are manufactured with inherent environmental protection and how they sense the force applied across it. (I am straining to avoid a Star Wars pun here!).
This is followed by a useful and illustrated description of typical locations and shows where LCM load pins can be installed to monitor load. Further technical drawings explain and show why and how locking systems are required and the importance of correct cable and connector arrangements.
A table is included that shows all our range of standard load pins within the range of 2.5 to 50 tonnes, with the proviso that not all pins match these exact dimensions and are therefore can be custom designed to suit a specific location and application. There is no extra cost for the design of a custom pin! You can find a PDF of our Standard Product Data Sheet by clicking here.
The Technical Note concludes with comprehensive installation notes and a discussion on the importance of calibration and when it is carried out.
On our newly designed, user friendly LCM Systems website, we have included an informative guide to Load Cells. Entitled What is a Load Cell? and accessible by clicking on the title, it has been written for both the novice and experienced engineers.
Starting from basics, this page answers the basic question What is a Load Cell?, before going on to provide information on the different types of load cells available to meet the demands of the diverse range of applications in which they are used. Click throughs to more comprehensive information are included, making the web page easy to navigate to load cells of interest.
Types of Load Cell discussed include:
Tension & Compression
Load Measuring Shackles
Load Measuring Pins
Load Monitoring Links
Finally, in a very useful conclusion, we talk about the range of instrumentation available that will make the load cell signal useful.
Amplifiers and conditioners
I know, it’s been a while since we updated our blog and now 2 come around at once!
You may remember last year we announced that we were sponsoring the Wightlink-LCM Systems Cycle Race Team. Well, I am delighted to say that our sponsorship is continuing through the 2014 season – which starts this weekend.
We will update the blog on a monthly basis to let you know how the team is getting on, but in the meantime you can follow them on their Wightlink-LCM Systems Cycle Race Team Facebook page or Twitter @WightlinkRT .
GOOD LUCK for the coming season!
Over the past couple of years I have been writing the blog, we have made it a mixture of industry comment, business news and product information. We have now decided to move the product and company stories over to the news section of our website. You can find new product information here on our Company News page.
I will still continue to talk about topics that concern the manufacturing industry in the UK and around the world, as well as providing some Hints and Tips on how to get the most out of your load pins and instrumentation. If there are any topics you would like me to cover, please don’t hesitate to contact us by either commenting on the blog or emailing email@example.com
I look forward to hearing from you.
